Visitor Access Policy
Access to Snell Library
Snell Library is excited to welcome current members of the Northeastern community 24 hours a day. Current Northeastern community members are defined as faculty, currently enrolled students, and staff, with a valid Northeastern University identification card. Visit the Husky Card office for more information about the Northeastern University identification card.
In addition, access to Snell Library is open to members of the public who demonstrate a specific need to use its resources in person. Visit Northeastern University’s Policy on Snell Library Public Access for more information.
Retired Northeastern Faculty/Staff and Alumni
- Fill out the Snell Library Privileges Request form to update your Library account to better access electronic materials and saved search results in Scholar OneSearch.
- Retired Faculty and Staff and (beginning September 9, 2024) Alumni have access to Snell Library during Library service desk hours with a valid Husky Card.
- Northeastern University Retirees and Alumni are encouraged to visit Monday through Friday between 9AM and 8PM for in person assistance from Library staff.

Library privileges: accounts and borrowing
- Northeastern students, faculty and staff can borrow electronic items using their Northeastern or NCH credentials via Scholar One Search, the library’s catalog. They can also check out physical items with a current, valid Husky card at the Help & Information desk located on the first floor of Snell Library.

- Beginning September 9, 2024 Alumni will be able to borrow materials located in the Stacks, Boston Books Collection, Oversize, Favat Children’s & Young Adult Collection, Faculty Publications, as well as requested items from the Remote Annex. Alumni do not have access to Interlibrary loan services or reserve collections including board games.
- Visiting scholars can register for borrowing privileges using the Library Privileges form at least 48 hours in advance of their visit, or they can visit the Help and Information Desk in person with a valid Husky Card to register for a library account.
