Access & Dog Policies

Policy on Access to the F. W. Olin Library at Mills College at Northeastern University

The mission of the F. W. Olin Library is to support the educational, teaching, research, and administrative needs of Mills College at Northeastern University. All current Northeastern community members (faculty, currently enrolled students, and staff) have the privilege of using the library, borrowing materials, and using library computers, databases, and other services. Mills College alumnae, Northeastern University alumni, and participants in select affiliated programs may use the library and borrow materials. A Husky Card, Mills student ID, Alumnae Association of Mills College (AAMC) membership card, or Northeastern University Alumni Association membership card is required for the purpose of checking out materials.

Access to members of the public, including students at other institutions, is limited to use of the building for quiet study and use of on-site materials before 6:00 pm. Computer use and printing is not available to members of the public. Our highest priority is serving our current student, staff, and faculty populations. Because of limited resources and space, unaffiliated users without a specific library purpose may be asked to leave. Any user who is disruptive will also be asked to leave and may lose the right to future library access. All children 13 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The library catalog is available for consultation at any time. For members of the public without borrowing privileges, many circulating materials from F. W. Olin Library’s collections may be available through interlibrary loan. Please contact your local public or academic library to request this service.

For other inquiries about materials or questions about access, please call the Reference Desk (510) 430-2385 or the Special Collections Librarian (510) 430-2047 during regular business hours.

Dog Policy

Dogs registered with Public Safety and/or Student Access and Support Services are welcome in the library as governed by the appropriate policy. Students should contact Student Access and Support Services for current service and emotional support animal policy. Faculty, staff, alumnae, and guests should review the Public Safety dog policy. We reserve the right to ask owners with loud or otherwise disruptive dogs to leave the building.

These policies are periodically reviewed and are subject to change without prior notice.
