Loan periods and fines

Overdue Notices and Lost Books

You are responsible for all items checked out to your card until the items are returned.  Please notify us if your card is lost or stolen.

If you've received a overdue notice for a book (or other item) you think you've returned, or you've lost a library item, please read these instructions

Renewals

Holds

When you need to use a book currently checked out to another borrower, you may request that Circulation put a hold on the book. You will be placed on a waiting list and notified in turn when the item is returned. The item will be held for you at the Circulation Desk for 10 days (books) or 7 days (media). 

If someone places a hold on an item that you have checked out, you may not renew it.

Recalls

If your need is urgent and the Snell Stacks item you want has been out to another borrower for two weeks or more (2 days for media), you may ask the library to recall it for you immediately. When the item is returned, you will be notified and it will be held for you at the Circulation Desk.

If you’ve had a general collections ("Snell stacks") book for 14 days or more, it is subject to recall by another borrower.  You may not renew it and must return it immediately.

The library reserves the right to block your account for failure to return books needed by other borrowers.

Proxy borrowing

Faculty and users with disabilities may use the Proxy Borrowing Form (download PDF) to authorize others to borrow in their name as a convenience.
