IEEE/IEL Terms of Use

Connect to IEEE/IEL Electronic Library/Xplore (Current NU Only)

Authorized Users are defined as: persons affiliated with Northeastern University as students, faculty or employees and authorized persons physically present in Northeastern’s library facilities.


Authorized users may:

Access, search, browse and view the Licensed Content
Download and print individual Articles and make a reasonable number of photocopies of a printed Article
Print a reasonable number of pages from an eBook and make a reasonable number of photocopies of those printed pages
Forward links to individual Articles and eBooks to Authorized Users and others
Post up to twenty-five (25) Articles or eBooks per semester, per course in PDF or HTML format for the purpose of electronic course reserves on Northeastern’s internal, secured computer network accessible only to Authorized Users
Authorized users may NOT:
Download, reproduce, retain or redistribute the License Content or any journal or issue of a journal in the Licensed Content in its entirety or in any substantial or systematic manner, including, but not limited to, accessing the Licensed Content using a robot, spider, crawler or similar technological device
Electronically distribute, via e-mail or otherwise, any Article or eBook
Abridge, modify, translate or create any derivative work based up the Licensed Content without the prior written consent of IEEE
Display or otherwise make available any part of the License Content to anyone other than Authorized Users
Sell, resell, rent, lease, license, sublicense, assign or otherwise transfer any rights granted under Northeastern’s Agreement, including, but not limited to, use of the License Content for any fee for service or commercial purpose
Remove, obscure or modify in any way copyright notices, other notices or disclaimers that appear on Articles or eBooks or in the Licensed Content
