Media Collection

DVDs, CDs and Streaming Media

The library has a rich multidisciplinary media collection to support research, instruction and enrichment. This includes all music genres, spoken word, documentaries, general information and feature films.  To search video and audiorecordings and streaming media, Select "Library Catalogs" in Scholar OneSearch.

Licensed streaming collections are also linked from the A-Z database list.

Locations

DVDs, CDs, and videocassettes are integrated with books on on levels 3 (call numbers A-P, including most feature films) and 4 (Q-Z, including documentaries and educational films).

Some items, usually feature films and language teaching materials, appear in the catalog with a "Restricted use reserve" location.  These can be checked out at the Help & Information Desk but are available for in-library use only by current NU students; faculty may take these materials out of the library for classroom showings.

Viewing and Listening

Current NU faculty, staff and students may view and listen to media materials in the Snell Library.

DVD, VHS videocassette, Multi-region and PAL players are located on carts which may be checked out at the Help and Information Desk and used in a group study room.

Audio CDs and most DVDs may be played on Dell computers on levels one and two of Snell Library.  Reserve a workstation online.

Borrowing

Current NU faculty, staff and students may borrow media materials in the Snell Library and take them out if they are not on reserve.  Faculty who need materials for longer than one week can request this at Help & Information Desk.

Restricted use reserve

Some items, usually feature films and language teaching materials, appear in our catalog with a "Restricted use reserve" location. These titles may be borrowed to use in the library only by current NU students; faculty may take these materials out of the library for classroom showings.

Scheduling Materials in Advance

Faculty may walk in during regular service hours to pick up materials for classroom use. However, we recommend scheduling of media materials at least 24 hours in advance to ensure they are available when you need them.

Borrowing Materials and Equipment

Media Equipment such as headphones, microphones, video cameras, projectors, laptops and more can be checked out from the  ITS side of the Help & Information Desk on the first floor of Snell Library.

Visitors

Members of BLC libraries may use and borrow non-reserve, non-restricted media materials on-site with a valid BLC card. Please call in advance to check availability and make arrangements for your visit.
