Meet the Author: Marco Deseriis
Improper name (n): the assumption of a common alias by an organized people, others like them, and individual authors. In Improper Names: Collective Pseudonyms from the Luddites to Anonymous, Dr. Marco Deseriis investigates cases like Anonymous, the “hacktivist” organization known for protesting censorship, to learn about the history of conflict that accompanies pseudonyms and their eventual appropriation by others, and the effect of such aliases on present-day radical social movements.
Dr. Marco Deseriis is an Assistant Professor of Media and Screen Studies at Northeastern University. In addition to his work on collective identities and distilled authorship, he is currently researching participatory techno-politics in European countries.
